Iran animation joins Portuguese festival

Iranian animation film ‘Ascribed Achievements’ has been qualified to compete in the 2017 edition of the FEST New Directors | New Films Festival, held in Portugal.

The 4-minute film will compete in the Short Animations section in the Silver Lynx Competition, Part 1, side by side with 9 other short animations from around the world.

Directed and produced by Samaneh Shojaie, the film follows the story of an old boy who dissatisfied with his hereditary appearance, decides to end his life. But his failed suicide creates new challenges.

‘Ascribed Achievements’ had previously been nominated for the Award for Best Animated Film Direction at Tehran International Short Film Festival.

FEST New Directors | New Films Festival is focused on creating a space for up-and-coming filmmakers to show and promote their work, to develop their skills, offering new opportunities, and the chance to develop new audiences for independent cinema.

The festival is divided into several categories, with 2 main award categories: Short films by filmmakers up to the age of 30 (Silver Lynx competition); and Features by directors on their first or second production (Golden Lynx competition).

The 13th edition of the FEST New Directors | New Films Festival will be held from June 19 to June 26 in the Portuguese city of Espinho.
